1st Year Anniversary Special: Star Wars Kinect Review (Xbox 360)

OK so I decided for my 1st year anniversary that I would be reviewing a game that quite frankly is out of my league. Since the prequel trilogy, Star Wars has since gone down hill, not with just the films, but in other media too. While there are some acceptations in its other media (LEGO Star Wars for example), some like The Force Unleashed promise something great, but in the end, its just plain rubbish. This game however has had a mixed response. While some appreciate the work that's put into this and how fun it can be, others call it a waste of time. As this is my review, I will decide whether its good or not.

Now as this is my special 1 year anniversary, this will go differently than usual so let's get to it:

Jedi Destiny:
This is a story based mode that as no surprise, takes place in the prequel trilogy. You assume the role of a padawan who is being trained to fight against Dark Side forces. While it is based in the prequel trilogy, this mode gives fans what the want. A chance to assume the role of a Jedi. It works well at points but ultimately the lightsaber duels are the weaker points of this mode. (strongly recommend using a lightsaber toy when doing this mode). 7/10

Rancor Rampage:
Now if you're a fan of Godzilla (and similar films), this is the mode for you. As a rancor, you can basically rampage all over various Star Wars areas and wreak havoc. A very fun and enjoyable mode for fans of this kind of thing. 9/10

Podracing:
As a mode that would look very simple to do, it's in no way as good as it sounds. The controls are frustrating at times and this overall is another weak spot of the game. But if this game is mostly prequel based, it comes to no surprise that this would come in. Just a shame that its not what we hoped for. 6/10

Galactic Dance-Off:
This is probably the closest you're going to get to finding anything that's purely Original Trilogy based. Despite that however, this mode is very fun and enjoyable for anyone, but I do find that there are some songs that don't quite fit (such as "Just The Way You Are" by Bruno Mars). All the songs are well known and for those that have lyrics to them, there is now a Star Wars twist to them (Hologram Girl, Blasterproof and Empire Today are just some of them). It surprisingly works well with the Kinect and is definitely the more enjoyable and fun side of the game overall. 9/10

Duels of Fate:
Suffering with what the 1st mode was, all I can say about this one is, while it does look promising for a better Star Wars experience than the other modes, its not. Its just like the duels in the 1st mode mentioned and should be avoided at all costs, unless you're prepared to be beaten by Vader in just one blow. 6/10

So Overall, its an OK game. Not the best that Kinect has had, but its definitely worth buying if you just wanna dance or rampage, but only for those, nothing else. 7/10
