Doctor Who Review - Kill the Moon (S8, E7)

In my honest opinion, I will agree with some people that this isn't the best series of Doctor Who so far which I guess is down to the fact that its a new Doctor who I have to admit can be quite serious and in a way scary, as well as the writing of most of the episodes which I guess is down to Steven Moffat. That being said, it is Capaldi's first series which is mainly about him establishing his Doctor, but we were promised the return of Galifrey and we still have yet to have that. However, even though this is yet another filler episode, it does have a twist ending and it also may very well be Clara's last trip with the Doctor (not giving away any spoilers, but yeah). So let's have a look:

So the episode begins with Clara (who we can guess is presumably on the moon) pleading the Earth for help, saying that they only have 45 minutes which ironically is the length of the episode. We then cut to the school Clara works at (taking place before her trip to the moon) and she is very annoyed with a certain student of hers called Courtney (played by Ellis George), or rather the Doctor for letting her in on their secret and the fact that the Doctor doesn't think she is special. To make up for it, he takes the girls to the moon in 2059 in the hopes to let Courtney be the first woman to go on the moon. But when they meet a crew and find out that the moon isn't all as it seems, Clara's plea to Earth may very well be a case of Earth deciding the fate of the moon (again, nto giving away any spoilers).

Now I think its fair to say that this is yet another strong episode that is exciting, action packed, visually good and scary. Ultimately though, its Clara and the Doctor who let it down for me as for most of the episode, there are tensions between them, the Doctor leaves Clara again and for some of the episode, I feel like they are going a bit out of character. Though that being said, at least the Doctor has some more stuff to do this time around which I thought was great as he hasn't had anything good to work on for a while now. Its also in my opinion, the only episode of this series so far that isn't reminiscent of any old episode despite having elements from some episodes of series 3, but I say that in the sense that its not an entire episode of something that's been done before which I thought was great. 9/10
