Random Movie Review - Zombieland

In my honest opinion, there are way too many zombie Apocalypse films, video games and TV shows now that it just makes the whole scenario too overrated. You know the scenario even before coming across these things and anybody wanting to make something original and new out of it, can't because of how popular and overused it is. For the most part, its all about some kind of experiment gone wrong and starts to spread some kind of disease or virus across the country or the world which would ultimately lead to the human race's near extinction with zombies taking their place and only a handful either survive or are immune to this thing. But then you have all this military bulls**t about them wanting to wipe out the zombies without even thinking about if there are humans still out there. But at the end of the day, you just do what you can to survive and with that said, let's look at one of the good zombie apocalypse films:

So we come to a world that is pretty much our own where a mutated strain of mad cow disease mutated into mad human disease, thus making most of the humans zombies and taking over most of the population of the United States. In the film however, there are but a handful of survivors. We have college student Columbus (played by the soon to be Lex Luthor, Jesse Eisenberg) who wants to find his parents, Tallahassee (played by that mentor like guy in The Hunger Games, Woody Harrelson) who is grieving over the death of his puppy at the hands of the zombies and sister duo Wichita (played by Spider-Man's former lover, Emma Stone) and Little Rock (played by Abigail Breslin) who are trying to get to a place of sanctuary in Los Angeles. Despite all the differences, they form a truce and begin their battle for survival.

I have to say that this film despite having the same scenario used in every zombie apocalypse story, I actually enjoyed this film. Its got a good balance of comedy and drama (and of course, violence when needed), the characters are pretty easy to relate to and I'm actually surprised that this was to start off a television series/series of films, but to date it never happened (and to be fair and while I personally have not seen it, I don't think there will be anything that can compete against The Walking Dead on TV). I feel this is up there with the good zombie Apocalypse stories like Shaun of the Dead, Dead Rising and The Last of Us as its such a great film, despite the overused premise. 9/10
