So after a reasonably long wait, the most anticipated Nintendo game is finally here and like with Brawl, it once again changes the rules a little bit. This is a first for the series as there hasn't been a single Smash Bros. game released on a portable platform, until now. With quite possibly the best character roster out there, let's see if this game lives up to expectations of me and the fans:
Now some of you may remember a while ago that I did a post on my predictions for this game and its upcoming Wii U counterpart and in all fairness, it does manage to live up to not all but most my expectations which is what I wanted to happen so that's great.
So without giving away too much, this game has quite possibly the best character roster that the series has ever had with a near total of 50 characters (3 of which are third party characters from Capcom, Namco and SEGA), 34 stages, about 77 items, 42 Pokemon (Those in the Pokeballs which excludes Pikachu, Charzard, Greninja, Lucario and a secret character from that series) and about 39 assist trophies. Classic Mode returns with a new twist where players can choose which path to take in it instead of following a set series of fights, but otherwise plays out the same with each fight having a certain twist with it, and you can also adjust the intensity to gain better prizes as you play, all leading up to your fight against Master Hand and depending on the difficulty, Crazy Hand as well. Stadium Mode offers players the chance to play series regulars Multi-Man Smash (which now use Miis and random fighters instead of those stick figures) and the Home Run Contest with Sandbag and a new to this set is Target Blast where the player has to shoot the bomb the same way with the Sandbag, but at targets to gain prizes. Exclusive to the 3DS is Smash Run which is a mode that plays similarly to Subspace from the last game, but is toned down greatly and only gives you 5 minutes to kick some ass out of enemies from all games represented in this game along with some competing characters too. Online mode is back and has been reworked to make the experience better than Brawl and in doing so you get 2 modes along with those from the last game which are For Glory (where you can only use Final Destination and its all about being the best) and For Fun (where you can use any stage and its all about having fun as you fight). The game has been made better to allow characters to have their own set of moves which in doing so means there's no longer any transforming characters along with many more stuff as well.
I have to admit, for a 3DS game, this is very good, big and action packed. Controls might be an issue for those who aren't used to playing games like this on the 3DS and because of some elements in the game, you will need an XL in order to fully appreciate the game without any problems. It has a great set of characters, a few surprises along the way and even though this game isn't perfect, its great to finally have a Smash Bros. game on a portable platform instead of always being restricted to home consoles. 9/10
