So I have a confession to make. I never actually got to play the first Bayonetta game when it first came out, mainly because at the time, I didn't have a PS3 or Xbox 360. But now that I have both consoles, the question arose about should I play it or not seeing as both consoles are nearly passing their prime because of the release of 8th gen consoles. In the end, I chose not to. But when Nintendo announced that the next game of the series would be a Wii U exclusive, the fanbase was fuming with anger as it should come out on the platforms that the first game came out on, but it didn't. I personally wasn't bothered by this and when I heard that the original game would be releasing on the Wii U to coincide with the release of its sequel, I then got onto the waggon of getting both games. So for me, was it worth the wait and do I actually like these games for what they are? Well let's find out:
1
So to begin with, if you've played the Devil May Cry games, then this will be a no brainier as it pretty much got the same if not similar combat methods that those games had. Anyway, so you play as the titular character (voiced by Hellena Taylor in all her English appearances including the film that's based on this very game. Apparently the creators felt that she should have a British accent as witches tend to be a European myth than Japanese) who as said in the brackets, is a witch who in this game was revived 20 years ago from the bottom of the lake and suffers with amnesia as she has no memories of her past. She owns one half of something known as "The Eyes of the World" and sets out to find the other half in a place called Vigrid when an informant called Enzo (voiced by Chick Venerra only in this game) who teams up with her, tells her that rumours say the other half is there. And then for the course of the game, she meets other characters who tell her more about the other half as well as tell her of her forgotten past while also dealing with a number of enemies along the way. Now ironically, this game was made by Hideki Kamiya who previously directed the first Devil May Cry game and the gameplay of this (especially the combat), can be described as very similar to that game as you're dealing with multiple weapons, melee and long ranged attacks and complex combo strings which is fine because in hack and slash games, you'll generally expect that sort of thing to be in the game. She can also summon things like iron maidens to help her out in combat and I think what Kamiya's vision was is to have players explore ways of defeating enemies and personally, I think that's done very well. As for everything else, its pretty much anything you're bound to expect in most hack and slash games, but one thing I did find quite unique is that she has guns in her feet and I think that's quite nifty as that's makes you shoot things in 4 ways instead of 2. The game has a lot of replay value as you can expect to complete the story in a matter of hours only to then go again to improve scores and take on more challenges which for a game like this, is great because not many of these games have that kind of replay value and that's great. So after a very long wait to finally play this game, was it worth it? In a way yes. Its very reminiscent of the Devil May Cry games with regards to the combat that's involved as well as you being invisible to the human eye and only a handful can properly see you, but that aside, I think the game is great and does do well to make it less of a Devil May Cry clone and I do in a way find it to be quite hot in that Bayonetta at points in the game, does go nude to summon things. Great game that's well worth the wait and its great that Nintendo decided to port it to the Wii U because if they only released its sequel, we would all be very confused by it all. 9/10

So now we move on to the game's long awaited sequel which was met with a lot of criticism due to the fact that it was a Wii U exclusive, but the creators did however state that if Nintendo weren't involved with the making of this game, there would be no sequel. Additionally, Nintendo's involvement was nothing more than just being an observer and everything in the game is based on staff's feedback that they received with the original game. So really in a way, Nintendo should not be blamed for the decision to have it only on the Wii U. In fact, nobody is to be blamed for this. Its just the fact of the matter that Nintendo made the fanbase's dream of the game to have a sequel come true but why its only on the Wii U is likely down to Nintendo wanting Platinum games to make games for the Wii U so that it sells well and the sales are not all down to Nintendo alone. I really don't know what else to say about that, but let's now talk about the game before I lose track. The game starts off a few months before the first one where Bayonetta and her friend but would eventually become her rival Jeanne (voiced by regular Cartoon Network and regular popular video games voice actor, Grey DeLisle) are fighting a group of angels (who are the enemies in both games) who attacked a city during a parade. But a demon summon goes wrong, Jeanne's soul is claimed by the depths of Hell and Bayonetta sets out to find and save her friend before its too late. Gameplay is pretty much the same as before, just with elements that make use of the Wii U Gamepad as well as some new stuff added as well. Now compared to its predecessor, the game still manages to retain the combat element that the series is known for and because the graphics of games these days have been well advanced to such an extent, it actually looks very realistic and beautiful in a way. The old and new characters are great as always, Bayonetta still makes the game very hot with her being nude for some of it (though I do wonder if she is actually wearing anything having seen her use her costume for summons) and I enjoy the little SEGA and Nintendo references that they do throughout which is great. Is it better than the first? On a graphical perspective, yes. As for the gameplay, its pretty much the same, just with some slight improvements. But otherwise, its a great game that defiantly makes good use of the Wii U which I expect nothing more from a Wii U exclusive. 9/10
So after all that, all I can say is its quite steamy and very reminiscent of Devil May Cry. In fact, you could say that this is a female version of that series as both franchises have great combat elements, you play as very good looking characters who are invisible to many but visible to a handful, chances are that you do get to see the main protagonists of each series showing off some flesh at least once, Bayonetta and Dante hunt down similar but different enemies and there's a lot of good one liners as well. I like these games a lot. They may not be big triple A titles, but they are good for playing to pass the time and have you still wanting more even after playing through the story. 9/10
