Its been a while since the last film I saw with Daniel Radcliffe in it and I have to say, he's done well for himself after having played Harry Potter for such a long time and now doing other films as well as a few stage plays as well. This film I have some mixed feelings about. I think Radcliffe is great and does a very good American accent for a Brit, but something just seems odd about this film. That said, let's take a look at it:
So based on a novel done by writer Joe Hill, Radcliffe plays a man called Ig (short for his full name, Ignatius Perrish) who has been accused for the murder of his girlfriend Merrin Williams (played by an actress who like with Radcliffe has done well for herself, Juno Temple). One day, he wakes up to find that he has horns on his head which gives him the ability to allow the people around him to reveal their darkest thoughts and do those very things they think of. Seeking help from his friend Lee (played by an actor who is typically cast as a "kind of" villain, not saying that he's a villain in this film of course, Max Minghella), Ig sets out to find the real killer of his girlfriend and try to work out what the deal is with these horns.
So as I said, I think Radcliffe plays his part very well in this film which is what I should expect from the guy who played the titular character of a fantasy series of films for 10 years, but I have mixed feelings for everything else. The idea is one that has been explored in the past, but not to a great extent (though this comes from someone who has yet to try and see every film that explores the stuff seen in this film) and it does have some very strong religious views on things, especially with what happens when an angel loses its wings and turns to the dark side. I did enjoy most of it, but did find parts of it to be both odd and very bizarre, but that's OK. If you like Radcliffe's work and love thrillers, then you'll no doubt enjoy this film. Just be aware that it can be quite a bizarre film when you get into it. 8/10
