Random Video Game Review - Hyrule Warriors

Better late than never I guess. So those of you that have been following my blog for a while, will know that I have played not all but some of the many Legend of Zelda games that are out there which gives me enough to understand what its all about despite its complex and complicated storyline which for years, many fans have tried to figure out how it all happens, but never come to a real understanding of it and that's down to the fact that some timelines that people have done, often say that there are 2 paths that are basically alternate realities each way. So while we wait for the next big Zelda game, Nintendo have teamed up with Omega Force who are known for their Dynasty Warriors series as well as Ninja Gaiden developer Team Ninja (who also did Metroid: Other M for Wii) to create a game that uses elements of the Dynasty Warriors games using the world of Hyrule and thus we have the hybrid game simply known as Hyrule Warriors. So is it worth playing while Nintendo work hard on the next Zelda game? Let's find out:

So like with similar games like this, this takes place outside of the main Legend of Zelda timeline where Ganondorf (and because this is a Zelda game, there is little to no voice acting in this game which is a shame as the series could do with a bit of that, but oh well) was defeated and his soul was splintered into 4 fragments, long ago. 3 were trapped in time while the 4th one was trapped by the Master Sword. He takes advantage of a sorceress who protects the balance of the Triforce while maintaining neutrality called Cia who becomes fascinated with the spirit of the hero of legend which her feelings for him allow Ganondorf an opportunity to purge her inner light which as a result, has her consumed in her desires, opening the Gate of Souls which is a portal to other space-time realities of Hyrule which in turn, unleashes a swarm of monsters allowing her to wage war against Zelda and the Hylian army in the hopes to unite the Triforce and conquer Hyrule. Among the Hylian army is Link who possesses the Trifoce of Courage and when he and the Hylian general Impa find Zelda unaccounted for, they set out to find her while also preventing Cia's quest for power. So in the game, you get to play as a wide range of Legend of Zelda characters including an original iteration of Link, some of the series main characters and characters from the games Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword among others. The game uses the hack and slash gameplay that the Dynasty Warriors series is known for which for the most part, has you battling against foes as if you were fighting in a war (and quite a big war at that), but still has a few Legend of Zelda elements in it as well like finding chests and equipping things to make you as the Daft Punk song goes, Harder, Better, Faster and Stronger. Also, some series regular weapons like bombs and swords are also here too. Because its a game that let's you play as other characters as well as Link, each one has unique but different abilities to others which in a way is good and tells us that Nintendo isn't all about recycling ideas over and over again. Another great thing about this game is the way it handles 2 player mode with one player watching from the television screen and the other on the Gamepad which I think is way better than the spilt screen element that most games tend to have.

I think to be fair, it is quite a fun game. It makes you feel like you're in a war and its done way better than games like Call of Duty and Ryse: Son of Rome which both make it look like you're only playing in part of a war and not all of it. Its got some great combat elements, makes good use of the Zelda license and if there's any game that is made for the Zelda fans which may not be the next big entry but is still a great game nevertheless, this would be it. Let the war rage on is all I can say. 9/10
