AC15: Random Movie Review - I'll Be Home for Christmas (2016)

Some time ago this month, I reviewed a TV film that I felt was really bad due to the poor acting which can unintentionally be funny depending on the film. But still its just one thing that brings a film downhill. So today we look at another TV film which this time I hope is actually a lot better than the other one. Not many big names in this one, but there is at least one actor here who was once engaged to one Barbara Streisand and also directed this film too. So let's get to it:

In this town somewhere (unfortunately there is no Wikipedia page for this film so I'm writing the plot based on what I remember of it) there's this assistant district attorney named Jackie (played by Mena Suvari) who struggles to maintain a job while looking after her little girl Gracie (played by Giselle Eisenberg). As things start to get better for her when she starts a relationship with a rich man called Rand Edwards (played by Jacob Blair), her father (played by James Brolin) arrives unexpectedly having been away for some time due to having grief of his passed away wife. Old wounds will be bought up and shenanigans occur which makes us the viewers ask if these characters will all be together for Christmas or not.

So the first thing to address is the acting. Unlike 48 Christmas Wishes, the acting here is more genuine. But I do find some of the acting annoying and others just wanting there to be more emotion to it. The comedy elements are OK I guess. The drama although a bit predictable is above average. So it is a much better TV film than 48 Christmas Wishes, but if you are one of those people who love those Christmas films with a bit more excitement in them, chances are that you won't find that here. There is even some plot points here which are never addressed again which annoys me when it happens. But overall its a nice little Christmas film that isn't high on exciting moments and is quite bearable to watch even though its not as good as any of those bigger Hollywood style films. 7/10
