After a long wait, PlayStation have finally decided to give something that fans have been waiting for, for a while. Unfortunately, it seems that, that something is in fact, their take on Smash Bros. While both of them look the same, when you actually get down and play them both, it's a different story all together. So let the battle commence:
Characters
So both games have a good set of characters to play as. Nintendo have had 42 characters in the Smash Bros games which include clones, 2/3in1 characters and third party characters. All-Stars have so far got 22 characters (including clones, 2in1 characters, DLC characters and third party characters). Smash Bros has at least 4 characters per franchise in each game (excluding the first) which normally are the most well known. All-Stars has only one character per franchise (except for Cole and Evil Cole who both come from inFAMOUS) which again are normally the more well known and consist of a mix of characters from the 90s, 00s and early 10s. They all have their own set of abilities, attacks and special attacks. All-Stars has a more structured fighting technique where the fighter can perform combos as they attack which even though can be difficult at times it works well for the most part. Upon each attack, the character boosts it's power meter which can go up to 3 levels and can KO opponents if used properly and the outcome is an all mighty powerful attack. Smash Bros however, keep it simple with all attacks a no way of getting combos. Unlike All-Stars, the characters can be KOed if their attack meter is high enough (the meter builds up each time a character attacks you and if the numbers go red, an attack can give you an immediate KO, making you venerable). Additionally, the character can unleash a powerful attack by hitting the smash ball which will eventually go into the character, allowing it to unleash a powerful attack, however the main difference here is the Smash Attack cannot always KO an enemy which sucks. So considering that Smash Bros has been around for a while and that All-Stars has a more stronger line-up but doesn't give you much in terms of unlockable stuff that isn't something to make your profile pretty, Smash Bros wins this round.
Stages
Both games have a great deal of stages which for the most part, are all based on a game of some sort. Smash Bros has a good deal of stages which can work well for the interactive ones, but there are just far too many simple levels that don't offer much in terms of the fighting. All-Stars on the otherhand has the stage based on one game, and throws in some elements of another game (Imaginshere is based on LittleBigPlanet, but later on has the background set for Buzz! for example) which work well, but can be far too predictable at times. Despite this, this round goes to All-Stars as the stages in that game combine 2 games, whereas Smash Bros only uses one game in a stage, so yeah.
Music
Now in the case of music, Smash Bros tend to use some of it's original music and some reworked music of games represented in the game itself, as well as some direct ports of other music as well. All-Stars on the other hand, uses original and remixed songs in the game. In addition to this, the game's stage music is a combination of 2 pieces of music from 2 games (hence the stages being based on a combination of 2 games). Both games have a great set of music which makes this round very difficult for me. So I'm going with All-Stars because it has more original music than Smash Bros and while Smash Bros's music is great, it just has far too many overused pieces of music that can get boring after a while.
So as much as Smash Bros is a great series of games and just shows how great Nintendo is (even though they really need to catch up with this generation of gaming), All-Stars is a fresh and new experience and has a much stronger fighting technique and stronger set of characters (even though a lot of them are third party ones). So All-Stars win (and don't bother trolling me because this is just opinion based and I have played both games so there).
Thanks for 200 views.
