Doctor Who Review - The Caretaker (S8, E6)

A lot of the episodes in this series have been very reminiscent of past episodes with Deep Breath being like The Girl in the Fireplace (Series 2, Episode 4), Into the Dalek being like Dalek (Series 1, Episode 6) and Listen being like one of Steven Moffat's earlier stories. In the Caretaker, Moffat said himself that this was to be like a spiritual successor to The Lodger (Series 5, Episode 11) and that's effectively what it is. Is all about the Doctor dealing with real life situations, this case being Clara struggling to keep her personal and professional life secure in a way. So with that said, let's take a look:

So the episode begins with Clara trying to juggle between her role as a teacher and her role as The Doctor. That is until the Doctor tells her one night that there will be no trip and so the following day begins. Clara goes to work and all seems to go ok. That is until it is revealed that The Doctor is the new but temporary caretaker which has Clara both furious and confused. But as you will guess, The Doctor is at the school for something else. Something alien.

This episode, I felt like yelling at the scenes where Clara is trying to hide something from Pink because those situations felt like ones that could easily be sorted with a memory worm. Aside from that, I thought it was like watching an episode of Waterloo Road which is a school based drama and the majority of the episode was at a school which is ok for the most part. It's not the best episode in my opinion, but at least we can see how Capaldi's doctor deals with real life situations which I thought was nice. 7/10
