Kicking off the month of October, I give you a review of a video game several months after its inital release. Regarding that, I saw a number of trailers for this game and in all honesty, it looked quite boring and when I actually got down to playing it, that's pretty much what you get. Don't really know much of the game's development, but seeing as it has ghosts in it, it counts as a horror/Halloween themed video game so let's take a look:
So the game takes place in Salem, Massachusetts presumably in the present where the playable character, a police detective by the name of Ronan O'Connor (not related to Brain O'Connor from Fast & Furious in any way (RIP Paul Walker), voiced by Jason Brooks) is thrown out of the window by the brutal and relentless serial-killer who people call The Bell Killer and shoots him down, thus making him a ghost. Because of unfinished business, Ronan must now solve his own murder and finish any unfinished business so that he may enter heaven and finally be together with his dead wife. So for the majority of the game, you play as the ghost of Ronan who as you expect with him being a ghost, can go through objects (but in the case of doors in the outside, they have to be open so that you can go in which is a bit of a fail in a way seeing as you do play as a ghost so there shouldn't be any barriers in the way, but oh well). The game has a small open world environment that you can explore to find items with stories behind them, help people who can also not go into heaven due to unfinished business, investigate things in a similar manner to Batman in the Arkham games and do other things that a ghost would do.
Where this game fails is that as a ghost, you should be able to go through anything, but this game changes that by having barriers put in. additionally, a lot of the time, this game can be quite boring as there isn't much going on in regards to excitement and fun which games should be like and even though this was released on 7th gen and 8th gen platforms, it doesn't in any way feel like a next gen experience. I guess if you're wanting something that isn't too hard to play, this would be it. But if you're wanting something a bit more bigger, this game can be skipped. For me, its not that bad of a game, But it is one that makes me wonder if the developers actually did their research on all things ghosts because there shouldn't be any barriers in this game at all and yet, there is. Also, many other reviewers of this game compared it to a very similar game which I personally haven't played myself, but have heard that it's better than this game so really this could very well be the only review you get where the game isn't compared and is treated as a stand alone game. Its OK for the most part, but don't expect it to be the next big triple A title because its not. 7/10
