Doctor Who Review - Mummy on the Orient Express (S8, E8)

So after what happened in the last episode, I feel more positive about Capaldi's Doctor and the series in general, but I do feel that the writing could be better. So we first heard about a mummy on the Orient Express during the finale of Series 5 and since then, nothing has come to light about the whole thing, until now. Better late than never I guess, but I think with it being the month of Halloween, it feels like the right time for it seeing as it has a mummy and all that. So with that said, let's see if this episode truly gives us our eyes worth (as it were):

So as a "last hurrah", The Doctor and Clara board a space train as it were called the Orient Express. There they easily fit in with the classy look of the train and its passengers and everything seems to be going well. That is until the find out that some of the passengers are being killed one by one, by none other than a mummy. But it seems that those who died at the hands of this mummy, isn't seen by anyone else and its now up to the Doctor and Clara to find out what's going on and get the problem sorted before everyone dies, with the Doctor making use of an engineer called Perkins (played by well known and loved British comedian, Frank Skinner) as he goes.

So to put it quiet simply, we do get what the title says. We have a mummy on the Orient Express so in a way, the title sums up the episode pretty much. That aside, I thought this was a pretty good episode that brings the whole request about this mummy that was mentioned in Series 5 to a satisfactory close and I think its great that the Doctor finally tells Clara why he was so heartless for some of the series and why he became such a dark and cold person and after this episode, I think things are on the up for both of them which is great. Its a great episode that makes the scare element that the show is known for, that much scarier and what a great time to have this episode in the month of Halloween. Doesn't get any better than that. And its very classy too. 9/10
