And now we have a film that the title pretty much sums it up in a nutshell. There is a werewolf, he is American and he is in London (well for the most part at least). Let's take a look:
So 2 American college students called David Kessler (our main character, played by David Naughton) and Jack Goodman (played by Griffin Dunne) are backpacking in Yorkshire, UK. As the night draws near, they decide to stop for the night at a pub called "The Slaughtered Lamb", but upon pointing out a 5 pointed star on the wall, the pub goers become quite hostile and as such, the decide to leave, being warned about the things that can happen at night. Some howling begins to happen and both the pair and the people at the pub hear it. As a full moon rises, the pair then come across an unearthly wolf who attacks them both, but only kills Jack. Fortunately, the pub goers kill the wolf to reveal a dead naked man in its place and David is then sent to a hospital in London to be treated. 3 weeks go by and David awakens to find that he survived, but his friend didn't and after a series of nightmares, he is then greeted by a stuck in Limbo Jack who tells him that he is a werewolf and must destroy himself to kill the bloodline and not let others have the same fate. As you would expect, David dismisses this entirely and after being discharged from hospital, he starts dating his nurse Alex Price (played by Jenny Agutter), but it isn't long before he realises that Jack was right and in turn, becomes the beast.
Now this film has received critical acclaim and to be honest, it is a good film I'll give it that, but its not perfect. The title alone can give away much of the events that happen in the film and I did feel a bit uncomfortable when Jack first appeared in Limbo following his death as his look can be quite sickly to look at. But enough about the bad things, what is there to like about this film? Well the idea is pretty neat, the characters (with the exception of our two main characters) are very British as you'd expect and its both funny and scary all the way through with a little bit of emotion and uncomfortable moments. If you just want a straight forward werewolf film that gets straight to the point, this would be the film for you. 9/10
