Random Movie Review - Titanic (1997)

When it comes to films winning awards, it tends to normally be the films that are based on actual historical events that win the most awards. But as most of us know, that's not always the case as some original films also recieve several awards as well as many other types of films. So we come to Titanic. Considered to be one of James Cameron's best films and the one that up until Frozen came along with Let it Go, had the most overplayed pop song by Celine Dion and to this day, it is her most well known song. Also Leonardo DiCaprio at the time, was one of a handful of actors not to have an Oscar and this was one of his early attempts to get such an award, but he failed. So let's have a look at this film about this historical ship:

So the events depicted in the film are told from the perspective of one of the ship's fictional survivors Rose Dawson Calvert (played by Kate Winslet in 1912 and by Gloria Stuart in 1996) who tells it to a group of treasure hunters who found a treasure belonging to her. We then go from 1996 to 1912 where Rose and her mother (played by Frances Fisher) and fiance (played by Billy Zane) are boarding the Titanic. Rose doesn't want to marry her fiance as she finds the whole thing to be nothing more than an excuse to solve the financial problems in the family and considers committing suicide as a result. We then meet a man called Jack Dawson (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) who intervenes and saves Rose from falling. As her fiance watches, he invites him to dine with the family which Jack accepts. But as the voyage continues, love is in the air between Jack and Rose (leading to some intimate moments in the film), but is soon cut short because of an upcoming event that could put everyone in danger.

What can I say about the film that hasn't been said already? Well not a lot. Its well acted by everyone, its historically accurate to the actual events while doing well to add some fictional things to it as well and its got some of the best music seen in any film to date (aside from the pop song). It won a s**t ton of awards and rightly so because it is a great and epic film. Only issue I have had with this film, is the pop song. Dont get me wrong, Celine Dion is a great artist when it comes to music, but I find her song in this film is just not that good having heard it far too many times. I'm sorry, but that's what I think of it. Other than that, I can't complain much else, its just a great film. 9/10
