So after he was Jack Bower in 24 and before being the president of the United States in Designated Survivor, Kiefer Sutherland starred in this supernatural horror film. Now obviously people of all or most walks of life use mirrors to prep up for any activity they may come across or just for a bit of fun if at an attaraction or amusement park. It has many uses, but let's imagine that we start to see things we shouldn't and things that don't appear in reality. This film explores this concept which at the time was (at least I think) not the most overly used scenario of sorts. So let's see what dangers we can find in these mirrors:
So we begin by seeing a security guard in a subway station end up in a room he cannot escape. He begs for his life at a reflection of his in a mirror who in turn makes out that his throat has been cut which as such happens to him in his reality. A man called Ben Carson (played by Sutherland) takes up a job of being security guard at a luxury department store which was set ablaze five years prior. On his first night, Ben comes across a series of mirrors which each one showing something in the reflection but not in reality. Soon more intense things start to show up in them which ultimately leads Ben to believe that a demon inside these mirrors is causing people to do things that can harm them. Convinced by all of this, he sets out to stop this madness before it harms himself and his loved ones.
What I like about this film is that it explores the whole concept of people seeing things in their reflections but not in reality and those reflections making them do things. Its probably a concept that's been done before, but the film makers did a pretty good job I think. I mean as far as it being a horror is concerned, its not going to give people nightmares nor will it scare people upon watching it. Ultimately I think its a decent film that does try to explore the concept of mirrors, but fails with the whole "protagonist trying to tell people what he's seeing is real and those people not believing him and finding him mad" scenario. So yeah not the best horror I have seen, but its an ok watch if anything. 6/10
And before you ask, I probably won't be reviewing the direct to home media sequel as I'm not that desperate to see it.
