Movie Series Review: Johnny English (1 and 2)

Now when it comes to comedy spy films, they always have the factors that are the main spy screws up everything but eventually suceeds and find it hard to actually attempt to get a love interest out of someone. Johnny English is no acception as it has one of the best British comedy actors out there, Rowan Atkinson (Famous for his roles in Blackadder and Mr. Bean) playing the main role. The series has had 2 films so far and while many critics have had mixed feelings about them, I on the other hand, will now share my opinion. So away we go:

Johnny English:
Released in 2003, the first film saw Johnny English promoted to the only spy in the companey MI7 after an explosion kills all the other agents. He is then given the mission to keep the crown jewels from being stolen which as you come to expect, fails miserabley. For the rest of the film, Johnny English, allied with his right hand man Angus Bough (Ben Miller) and love interest Lorna Campbell (Natalie Imbruglia) set out to find the culprit and stop thier evil plan that will turn the UK into something far worse. My personal opinion on this film is that while Rowan is all fun and dandy (as he should be), the film can be easily forggetable within a hour after watching it. Its good but could've been better. 7/10

Johnny English Reborn:
Released in 2011 and set 5 years after a disasterous mission in Mozambique, English is learning martial arts under the supervison of his mentor (later to be revealed as a sleeper agent for MI7), Ting Wang (Togo Igawa) who tells English that he is needed at MI7 once again to take on a new mission. This time round, MI7 has given English some gadgets to try out, including a Rolls Royce that responds only to his voice among many others. He comes across a organization called Vortex who are planning to take down MI7 and also finish what they started in Mozambique. Allied with a junior agent called Tucker (Daniel Kaluuya), English sets out to take down Vortex. This film is darker than the last one and I also think its more memerable than the last one, because it carries on with Rowan's comedic fun and has more action in it. Its definetly better, but still needs improvement. 8/10

Rowan Atkinson is a very good actor and comedian, but his work could've be better in these films. That all I have to say.
