Random Video Game Review - Mortal Kombat X

After a very successful reboot of the franchise and a DC game with a similar gameplay style, NetherRealms return with the next game in the Mortal Kombat series and well, I'd say its another great entry in the series, albeit with a few technical issues which I'm sure other players have already addressed in their reviews already (never trust a critic because chances are, they are talking bulls**t half the time). So let us finish this review, but no chance of a fatality here I'm afraid:

The game's story takes place two years after the last game and a new threat to Earthrealm called Shinnok emerges with his army of Netherrealm demons and the fallen Earthrealm warriors who are now resurrected as revenants under Quan Chi's control. A strike team led by Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade and Kenshi, fight the fallen warriors and open a portal to Raiden's Sky Temple in which the trio help in the fight against Shinnok and his forces in which Cage gains superhuman powers which he uses to keep Shinnok at bay, allowing Raiden to grab the amulet that he can trap him inside and does so. They then find and defeat Quan Chi and while he does escape, the team manage to restore Jax, Scorpion and Sub-Zero in the process. Years later and Sonya and Johnny get married, have a kid named Cassie, but then divorce. While Scorpion reinstates his Shirai Ryu clan and trains Kenshi's son Takeda in the process and Sub-Zero becomes the new grand master of the Lin Kuei after killing Sektor. 20 years following Shinnok's capture, Quan Chi plans to retrieve the amulet to bring Shinnok back and its up to various fighters old and new to stop him and his minions before its too late. So like in previous games, the game plays out like a 2D side scrolling beat 'em up in which two players (or one player and a CPU player) fight it out using various moves. Like in the previous game, certain moves can have you see your opponent suffer severe damage and you can see the areas that can be damaged and its now easier to do fatalities which are of course is what the series as a whole is known for. You can also interact with the environment like in NetherRealms's DC game and every fighter has different variations, each containing a different set of skills as it were. Some fan favourite modes and gameplay features from games in the past like towers, make a comeback to have the game be full of stuff as well as the main story. The game also supports cross-platform play and has local and online multiplayer too. We have some old and new fighters in the game, many of which are fan favourites and a couple of third party ones like Jason from Friday the 13th and Predator from the series of the same name.

As NetherRealms's first 8th gen game that isn't a port, this is actually very good. The graphics make the game look fantastic, the gameplay is great as always and all these new modes whether they be old or new, make the game feel packed and full of more stuff than just the main story. I like it a lot and I'm sure you will too if you love violent games like this. Like I said, no fatalities, but I've now finished the review. 9/10
