Movie Series Review: The Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy (Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz)

This trilogy is a series of films that have only this continuity. It has actor/comedian Simon Pegg writing the film along with Director/Writer Edgar Wright also writing alongside Pegg as well as directing it and stars both Pegg and one of Pegg's close friends, actor/comedian Nick Frost (both in some way, playing the main characters). As the name of the trilogy suggests, the films feature at some point, Pegg and/or Frost having a Cornetto with the flavour matching the theme of the film. Currently as of now, only 2 films of this trilogy have been made with a 3rd one being announced. They are:

Shaun of the Dead:
This is the first of the films which is basically a romantic comedy with a Zombie Apocalypse twist. Pegg portrays a salesman at a local electronics store who lives with flatmate, Pete (played by Peter Serafinowicz) and crude but best friend, Ed (Played by Frost). He has a rocky relationship with his girlfriend and his step father but then realises that the whole neighbourhood is hitting a zombie Apocalypse and he along with his friends and parents must find a way to both survive and protect themselves. A strawberry flavoured Cornetto is featured in the film. Starts off slow but does eventually pick up the pace. Great film likewise. 9/10

Hot Fuzz:
Hot Fuzz serves as the second film in the trilogy but unlike most film trilogies, does not in anyway have a story connection with its planned successor and its predecessor. Pegg portrays a police officer who works in London and because of his good work, is then moved to the crime free town of Sanford because as his boss describes it, is making the other officers look bad. There he is partnered up with police officer, Dan (played by Frost) who is the son of the chief of police in the village. Little does Pegg's character know that the neighbourhood watch are performing crimes secretly to avoid attention and to make the village the best village there is. The film features a blue Classic Cornetto. Great film with action and comedy throughout. 9/10

The planned third film (currently titled 'The World's End') will be the third and possibly final film in the trilogy and will feature a green mint chocolate chip flavoured Cornetto. Little is known of it other than that and is due for release in 2014 (if we survive the so called 'End of the World' on 21/12/2012 that is).
