Movie Series Review: Ice Age (1-4)

As epic and funny as it is, Ice Age has been a great, if not, weird series that has had more overused ideas that any other animated film to date. Its 20th Century Fox's trademark full CGI film that competes with the likes of Shrek and Toy Story and there is no reason why it should, because its great. So let's review the films:

Ice Age
Our story begins with Scrat finding his perfect spot for an Acorn which somehow, doesn't go according to plan. In the parallel story, Manny, the (apparently) last known Mammoth in existence, meets a Sloth named Sid and a Saber Tooth cat named Diego and they come across a baby who has lost his mum during a failed mission of Diego's and Diego assists Manny and Sid in finding the boy's dad which goes on fro the rest of the film. It may look like standard animation, but this film I found very enjoyable and somewhat epic in some sense. Very enjoyable. 9/10

The Meltdown
Scrat continues his craving for an acorn and as usual fails. The Ice is slowly melting and everyone now has to move onto a boat of some sort to protect themselves from the overflowing water. Diego, Sid and Manny meet up with two possums named Crash and Eddie and their Mammoth sister, Ellie who Manny shows a liking into for most of the film. The meltdown may have been caused by either global warming or by Scrat's craving of an acorn. I find this film to be the most epic of the lot as it shows the epic feel of the end of the world and all that so yes, I find this one to be the best. 9/10

Dawn of the Dinosaurs
In the 3rd film of the series, Manny and Ellie are expecting a child and Manny wants to make his family's life perfect (after what happened with the hunters, as seen in the first film). Sid decides to adopt three dinosaur eggs which end up having him get kidnapped by the mother of the baby dinosaurs, leaving Diego (who wants to leave the herd for personal reasons), Manny, Ellie, Crash and Eddie having to travel into a secret tropical world that's full of dinosaurs and they meet Buck, who despite his odd behaviour, helps the gang find Sid. Scrat comes to terms with love when he meets his female counterpart, Scrrate and must decide between her and his acorn craving. This film I find to be a step down from the epic feel and shows more action and adventure than anything else. But, Simon Pegg's involvement in this one, makes up for it so credit goes to him. 8/10

Continental Drift
Yeah I know what you all thinking. This film is not out yet so why am I reviewing it just days before its released. Well I watched an advance preview of it so that's your answer. The film begins with Manny having to cope with his teenage daughter Peaches who has begun going through the puberty stage with having a crush on other mammoths. This however is short lived as the whole world starts getting split into the islands that we see today (possibly caused by Scrat) which has Manny, Sid, Diego and Sid's granny, get separated from the rest of the herd and now have to deal with pirates. While this is a little bit more epic than the last film, the pirates are the big thing here as they bring comedy, action and fun throughout so well done for that. 9/10

Overall, the series has been somewhat good with having a main and sub plot in all of them which is something that not a lot of films can do so well done 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios. 9/10

Wow that's quite unexpected. Over 200 views. thanks everyone.
