Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS Predictions

Updated on 24/09/2013

OK, so for the past two decades we've seen Nintendo do the unthinkable with Super Smash Bros. For those of you that don't know this series, Smash Bros is a fighting game with many Nintendo Franchises (Mario, Zelda etc.) being seen as stages, characters (playable and non playable), music and so on. It's has been until the announcement of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale to be the only multiple, 4 fighters at once, crossover fighting game and while it does look like its running thin of ideas, its still fun to this day. 3 games of the series have been released (64, Melee and Brawl) and the director and creator of the series, Masahiru Sakurai has said that work on the 4th instalment is now underway, but don't expect it to be out this year or next year as its a big game that needs time for development. So here are my predictions for the next game:

Characters:
Normally when every game is released, the roster of the game goes up by 10 fighters each time. Brawl had 35 and Sakurai has noted that the roster will not go up this time as their are too many fighters as it is. That said, the game is being worked on with Namco Bandai and Sora Ltd which can give us hints to third party characters. But here's my dream roster:

For Mario, it should be just Mario, Luigi, Peach and Bowser. Bowser's troops don't really offer much in terms of fighting skills (as shown in the Mario games) while Daisy would be just a clone of Peach (and Sakurai has stated that no more clones will be used in the game). Waluigi has made an appearance already as an assist trophy and he showed little to no help. Toad is part of Peach's combat skills so we can leave him out and as for spin off characters (Dr. Mario, Professor E. Gadd, Geno etc.), they probably will make an appearance, but not a playable sort. Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser and Rosilina (with Luma) confirmed.

For Legend of Zelda, Link, Ganondorf and Zelda/Sheik would be fine. Toon Link and Young Link are clones so no need for them, but it would be interesting to see Wolf Link and Ganon's true form in action. But I highly doubt it. Link, Toon Link, Zelda and Shiek (both separate characters) confirmed.

For Kirby, Meta Knight and King Dedede were great additions in the last game (with Kirby obviously) so the line up there is fine as it is. No need for any more characters. Kirby and King Dedede confirmed.

For Pokemon, Pikachu and Jigglypuff are OK. If the Pokemon Trainer returns, I would like to see maybe the possibility of there being a choice of Pokemon to choose from (one of each weighted class of course). As for other Pokemon, I'm not too sure. If more of them are in, then fine, otherwise the line up is fine as it is. Pikachu, Lucario, Charizard and Greninja confirmed.

For StarFox, as long as they don't get cloned moves that work differently, Fox, Falco, Wolf and Krystal. The others don't show much towards combat, humorous conversations during battle, yes, but everything else, no. Fox confirmed.

For Metroid, Samus in her Armour and Zero Suit forms are fine. Ridley is far too big to be a playable character and Dark Samus may just be a clone of Samus. Nuff said. Samus and Zero Suit Samus confirmed (both separate characters).

For MOTHER/EarthBound, Ness is fine and Lucas is fine. Doubt that Porky and the others will be playable though.

For Fire Emblem, Marth will no doubt make a return. Not sure about Ike, but Roy is a clone character so he won't come back, I'm sure of that. Marth and Ike confirmed.

For the other Mario Franchises that apparently have their own franchises, Yoshi, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong. Not too sure about Wario as he was a requested character for the third game so he won't return. Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong and Yoshi confirmed.

For other Nintendo characters, Captain Falcon, Olimar and Pit. The Mii may be seen, but highly doubt it and as for various iconic Nintendo characters (R.O.B and Mr. Game & Watch), they may return, or not. Very unpredictable at this time. Little Mac could be playable. Olimar, Pit, Mii Fighter, Palutena and Little Mac confirmed.

Excluding the characters within characters, this makes a total of 29 Nintendo characters. So for third party characters (and based on current circumstances), here's who I think should be in:

Mickey Mouse (due to Disney and Nintendo's shared history)
Phoenix Wright (due to the publishing rights to the first 4 games in the series)
Pac-Man (due to a particular company's involvement in the game) confirmed
A LEGO minifigure of some sort (due to the number of exclusive LEGO games on Nintendo platforms)
Jin or Henhachi (due to Namco's involvement)
Captain Rainbow (due to Sakurai wanting him in the last game)
A Soul Calibur character (seeing as Link appeared in one of them)
Professor Layton (due to all the games being on the DS and 3DS exclusively)
Megaman and Sonic confirmed.

A part from those, that's all the characters I can think of right now.

Stages:
For stages, there is potential of having some old and new ones. The question is, how will they work. Perhaps Sakurai may consider combining 2 games into 1 stage which I know is copying Sony, but it could work. A combination of StarFox and Mario Galaxy, Fire Emblem and Legend of Zelda, MOTHER/Earthbound and Pokemon, Metroid and Pikmin, F-Zero and Mario Kart, Wii Sports and Mario Sports, Warioland and WarioWare and others. For single stages, that at this time is tricky, but I see there being a Wuhu Island stage because we have yet to see something like that, a Paper Mario stage where all characters are in 2D but are in a 3D environment, a stage based on the Olympic Stadium as seen in Mario & Sonic at the Olympics and others as well. That's all I can say on that. Battlefield, Garden of Hope, Mario Galaxy, Pryosphere, Skyloft, Town and City, Wily Castle, Windy Hill, Pilotwings, Palutena's Temple, Boxing Ring, Wii Fit Studio, Windy Hill, Final Destination, Halberd, Arena Ferox, Castle of Darkness, Gerudo Valley, Prism Tower, Rainbow Road (Mario Kart 7 version), Spirit Train, 3D Land, Tortimer Island, World Circuit, Living Room, Reset Bomb Forest, Find Mii, Balloon Fight and Jungle Japes confirmed.

Music:
Music in the last game were very superior and collecting them were great too. But to top the music of the last game and adding some more, is going to be tricky. Personally I see there being some special music for those franchises that have recently celebrated a big anniversary (Legend of Zelda, Mario and Kirby to name a few) and maybe some completely brand new music including the main theme of the game. That's all I can think of for now, music wise.

Online:
Online compatibility was a major let down of the last game, so hopefully with any luck, the next game will use a better and more efficient way to play online, and with Nintendo introducing the Nintendo Network, it will get better. DLC for this game could come into play here but as of now, it's unknown if it will ever come, but if it does then great. That's all for Online. Confirmed for both 3DS and Wii U.

That's all I can say on that, so I hope you like my predictions and feel free to comment.

UPDATE: Wow. Over 200 views. Thanks guys!! :)
