Random TV Season Review - Twisted Metal (Season 1)

There has been quite a few adaptations of various PlayStation franchises in the last 10 or so years, and now we have another one. I will admit, the overall feeling I have for these films is mostly positive. While there have been a few films that didn't work out too well, later films and TV shows based on PlayStation franchises, have done better and have been more well received. Naughty Dog's two biggest franchises have been adapted with the best one being The Last of Us which managed to adapt the first game of that franchise, very faithfully, while allowing some additional material. Whereas the Uncharted film, ultimately, didn't work and was very miscast, which has made people worry about when we get a God of War film. The Ratchet & Clank film was also one that people were not too keen on and ultimately forgot it existed (well I certainly did till now) as well as a Heavenly Sword film. So with all that aside, now we have another TV show based on perhaps one of PlayStation's most bizarre video games, but one with a pretty simple premise, all about vehicle combat in a world that has gone to s**t. Let's see how this one plays out and for the record, yes I have played one of the games and found some enjoyment in it:

In a post-apocalyptic wasteland, a man with no memory of his previous life and goes by the name John Doe (played by Anthony Mackie), is given the task of delivering a mysterious package which he must traverse the USA to find and ultimately deliver in his car Evelyn. Along the way, he meets and befriends a lady called Quiet (played by Stephanie Beatriz) who has her own mission of revenge. While that's happening, an insane character by the name of Sweet Tooth (portrayed by Joe Seanoa and voiced by Will Arnet) starts a rampage across the USA and starts building up an army of followers.

The series has a good soundtrack, plenty of comedy and serious moments, and ultimately builds up to the thing that the games are known for. But in terms of an adaptation of a video game, it's far from perfect. Some things do feel a bit strange and out of place, but does well in most other areas. It's not like The Last of Us TV show where it feels close to perfection, but it looks and feels like the Twisted Metal games, so yeah. If you just want something that is similar to the likes of Borderlands and Mad Max, you will definitely get that here. I'm actually surprised with the amount of underrated songs it had in this one season, if anything, but still a decent show overall. 7/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2
