Random Movie Review: Avatar

Avatar is one of those few films that makes the 3D experience, worth it. It was 2009's highest grossing film (later on, making it's way to the most highest grossing film of all time) and was critically acclaimed for it's groundbreaking visual effects. This project was an idea that James Cameron had in the 90s, but decided to wait until technology caught up, and it was worth the wait. But the real question is, do I like it? Well read on to find out:

Taking place just a few more years after Mass Effect (2154 to be exact) and in a time when humans have depleted most of Earth's natural resources, a group of what look like to be marines, travel to the moon, Pandora in the hopes of doing research into the moon itself. Some marines prefer firing weapons, while a handful prefer exploring. One of the exploring kind is Jake Sully, a paraplegic former marine who steps into his deceased twin brother's footsteps and gets total control of an avatar that resembles the local aliens, the Na'vi. During a mission with his bodyguard and a few scientists, the local wildlife attack Jake's avatar and forces him to flee into the forest, only to be rescued by one of the wild Na'vi, a female called Neytiri, who reluctantly welcomes Jake into her tribe. With 2 worlds to cope with and the choice of life and death, Jake will be having a lot of work to do.

Overall, the visual effects are groundbreaking, the film makes the 3D experience worth it and with it being in the works for a long time, it shows the amount of work used in the film itself. However, it's not a perfect film as I find the story to be just OK, not great, just OK  Otherwise, it's a great film that deserves at least one sit through. 9/10
