Random Movie Review: Fanboys

Now while many people would assume that this is a Star Wars spoof, its not. Fanboys is a film that pays tribute to all dedicated fanboys of various franchises such as Star Wars and Star Trek. It was released in the USA and Canada theatrically in early 2009 and was a direct to DVD release in Europe in 2010. Personally, it would have grossed more money if it was just a direct to DVD feature in the first place. But anyway, let's see what I thought of it:

The film takes place in late 1998 where we see five best friends Eric, Linus, Hutch, Windows and Zoe have reunited at a Halloween party. Eric is the only one of the 5 of them to have matured and has a job as a cars salesman at his Father's dealership, whereas the others haven't changed since school and still share the love they have of Star Wars. Being excited for the upcoming Star Wars film, The Phantom Menace, the gang decide to put a plan that they wanted to do since childhood into motion which is to infiltrate the Skywalker Ranch and steal a rough copy of the film. They go on a road trip to do just that, but along they way, the most avoid Trekkies and various other obstacles as well.

Now I know that many critics have given this film, negitive reviews and I don't balme them. The film for the most part is ok and does what it's intention is well, but the story can be a little bit over the top and can fall as a film that can be similar to films like Scott Pilgram VS The World and Superbad because it's a film that shows young people acting as nerds (although in Superbad, it doesn't have that much nerdiness in it) and does a pretty good job at it too. 8/10
