Collector's Edition Review: Harry Potter Wizard's Collection

For those of you wondering, this is a new review type that I've decided to do, where I review a very special retail version of a particular film, TV show or video game. The reviews will not be on the film, TV show or video game itself, but rather a review on what you get in the package, in addition to them. Today we look at the Harry Potter Wizard's Collection, which according to Warner Bros will be the best its going to get in terms of collector's items. So what do you get in this package? Let's find out:

The Box:
The outer box is very shiny and is just your average box when it comes to big things like this. You get one side showing the earlier films and 2 showing the later films. On the back, it shows you its contents and a few other stuff. The inner box is well protected and stored with polystyrene which works well and looks like a Hogwarts trunk if it were a box. Upon opening the box, you'll come across the first film and behind it, is a little flap which has inside a book showing the many artifacts in the Harry Potter world, a fabric map of the Hogwarts Grounds and blueprints of the castle. the front flap can then go down and you can then open the sides which reveal 2 outer draws. On the right one, you get the 2nd and 3rd films and on the left, there's film numbers 4, 5 and 6. There's also 2 cleverly hidden push-in-to-get-out draws which on the left, contains the Ultraviolet code to download all the films and on the right, a replica of the medallion (one of Volemort's many horcruxes). At the far back, is a hidden panel which has a bonus disc containing exclusive bonus content that you can't get anywhere else. In the 3 draws below, the top one contains some art cards and another book containing the many labels used in the films. The middle draw has the last 2 films and the bottom one has a certificate of authentication (which has a number that shows you which numbered set you got) and some more high quality and coloured art cards. The box itself weighs a ton, but considering all that's in it, that's to be expected. Nice box. 9/10

The Films:
I won't go into detail of each film as I've already talked about them. The set contains all 8 films in their Ultimate Edition forms in book styled cases. Each one has a Blu-Ray and DVD version of the film, a DVD containing bonus features and part of an 8 part documentary on creating the world of Harry Potter (with some additional bonus features and the last 2 parts are exclusive to this set). 1 and 2 have both the theatrical versions and extended versions of the films whereas both parts of the Deathly Hallows have a 3D Blu-Ray version in addition to the Blu-Ray and DVD versions of the films. The additional disc has bonus features that don't really go with any of the films, but rather showcase some highlights of the series. It doesn't get any better than that, and the amount of stuff on the discs will keep you amused for hours. 9/10

The Memorabilia:
So in addition to the films, you also get some memorabilia that you can't get anywhere else. This includes a catalogue of artifacts (which shows some of the many artifacts seen in the films), a label collection (similar to the artifacts book, only with labels this time), a certificate of Authenticity (which was inspired by the Hogwarts Express train ticket and has a unique number for each set), a detailed blueprint of the castle with pictures and art, a collection of art cards and sketches (all of which, showing some stuff from the Harry Potter world), a map of Hogwarts and it's surroundings in the form of a cloth and a replica of the medallion in Deathly Hallows Part 1 (one of Voldemort's many horcruxes). Some great things here. 9/10

The Verdict:
Overall, while the set ways a ton and taking into account of it's price and a few other things as well, this is a pretty solid set which gives you (or tries to at least) the complete Harry Potter film experience in all it's glory. The box is well made, the idea of different panels and draws works well and it's very obvious that it was worked on hard and was made purely for the fans more than anybody else. If you want the complete experience, while having a good amount of money in your account and some strength, then this is the thing for you. 9/10
