2012 has been a good year for American actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt as he's been in some big films that year including a supporting role in the final installment in the Nolan Batman Trilogy as well as some big roles in some of that year's most positivly reviewed films. Here, he is joined by action star Bruce Willis and up and coming English actress, Emily Blunt, in a film that shows how time travel can be made usful in the future. Is it worth the Loop or not? Let's find out:
So taking place about 31 years from now (if my calculations are correct), we come across a man called Joseph Simmons, a man who works for a mafia in Kansas City as a "Looper". The role of a Looper is quite simple. Using the power of time travel, the future mafias will send thier trash to the loopers in the year 2044 for them to dispose of as they don't have room for them in the future. They have to not let thier target escape, even if the target is thier future selves (which if they kill, they are allowed to spend the rest of thier lifes doing whatever they want until the future mafias send you to the past for death at the hands of thier past selves). The Kansas Mafia is run by a guy called Abe, who has come from the future and serves as the mafia's link to the future as well as commander. Simmons gets the chance of killing his future self, but fails when his future self, fights back and it's then a race against time to stop his future self and finish the job as it were (even going as far as hiding in a cornfield to do so).
Overall (and I apologise if my sypnosis was too confusing and did not make sense for), this film is great. It has a lot of action and thriller moments, its possibly a highlight of JGL's career (especially when working with a legend such as Bruce Willis) and it's worth checking out. Might be a little confusing and complex at times, but for the most part, it's a good and enjoyable film that I would think deserves at least 2 watches (one for the experience and the other for trying to make sense of it). 8/10
