Movie Review - Pacific Rim

So, we finally have a nerd fest film that isn't a sequel, prequel or reboot of an already established franchise, and while I do like most of those, they tend to get old after a while. Anyway so here we have a film about gigantic robots (with some kind of resemblance to Master Chief from Halo) against aliens that look a lot like the ones you would normally see in an anime or manga. And that's really all it is. But let's see if I can say any more about this film:

So the film takes place in a post apocalyptic world in the future where gigantic aliens have made a portal that allows them to travel from their world to our one beneath the Pacific Ocean ( which is likely where the film got its name) and have caused a lot of damage to the world's cities that has resulted in a never ending war between humans and aliens. To handle the situation, humankind has created gigantic robot bodies that can be used by 2 individuals whom upon entering the body, will share the same brain and movements in the hopes of using the robots to put an end to the aliens. Will these humans succeed in their battle and how many references to nerd culture can you spot?

Now this is what summer blockbuster films should be like. Its fun, epic, action packed and there is a lot of references to anime and manga along with something special for all you Portal fans out there. The acting I thought was actually pretty strong especially for a film like this (because normally the effects are good, but the acting is meh), but let's face it, you just want to see this film because of the alien and robot battles which will mostly take place in the water with at least one or two of them on land. I was lucky enough to see this in 3D and I thought the 3D worked really well. I loved it and its definitely the must see summer film, this year. And I'm also glad that this isn't another film that's part of an already established franchise which even though are good, they will get old after a while. 10/10
