So after waiting a good few years, we finally get the epic conclusion to the Cornetto Trilogy. With a mission to mock the Sci-Fi genre (or at least, the technological side of it) as well as to have a Cornetto, does this film bring the trilogy to a satisfying close? Let's find out:
Now throughout this film, there are a few similarities to Shaun of the Dead in regards to it's story and jokes, but don't let that fool you. So the film focuses on 5 friends, Gary King (played by regular number 1, Simon Pegg who looks a bit like a goth), Andrew/Andy Knightly (played by regular number 2, Nick Frost), Steven Prince (played by regular number 3, Paddy Considine), Oliver Chamberlain (played by regular number 4, Martin Freeman) and Peter Page (played by one of the non-regulars, Eddie Marsan) (When I say regulars, I mean the actors that have appeared in all or some of the entries in the trilogy) who as teenagers, all attempt to do a pub crawl but fail. Several years later, Gary King is convinced to get the gang back together and try to do it again which for the most part, is a little bit sour to do, but he eventually gets there. However upon arriving in the area, they notice that something isn't quite right with the locals and completing the pub crawl then becomes the least of their worries. Will they make it to the fabled pub, The World's End? And what surprises await them?
Now before I give you my verdict (and I know I keep saying that in my recent reviews so I'll try to tone down a bit in future), the Cornetto does make an appearance, but not in the way the other films make it appear, so keep an eye out for it. Despite not being as strong as some of the other summer blockbusters that are out this year, this is still very fun to watch. It has everything that the trilogy is known for, it sets itself on a "sort of" epic scale and its a good laugh throughout. Wright, Pegg and Frost have done it again and I can't wait to see what they'll do next. 9/10
