So Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have been well known for their roles in the Three Flavour Cornetto Trilogy films (including the upcoming The World's End which I will review when it comes out), but what about films outside that trilogy. Well this is one of them, but unlike the TFC Trilogy, they play supporting roles this time around as they mock the Sci-Fi genre but without Edgar Wright directing and a mostly American cast. Do they boldly succeed where no man has succeeded before? Let's find out:
Graeme Willy and Clive Gollings (played by the comedy duo themselves) are two British nerds and comic book enthusiasts who travel to the US to go to Comic Con (a paradise for nerds, geeks and internet celebrities who want news on their favourite franchises) and then set off on an adventure to see extraterrestrial sightings. But that may be just what they get as they come across an alien called Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen) who is in desperate need of help and while Clive is reluctant about the idea, he and Graeme decide to help him anyway. But with agents responding to a person known as the "Big Guy" who wants the alien for her own reasons, as well as other problems along the way, can Paul get back home? Its best to watch it to find out.
As Pegg and Frost's first attempt at mocking the Sci-Fi genre (the next being The World's End), this is a very good and enjoyable film. While it may not be an official entry in the TFC trilogy, its still very funny, action packed and has all known references to the Sci-Fi genre which for most films, wouldn't go down well, but this film is an exception. 9/10
