Movie Review - The Lone Ranger

From the creators of one of my favourite all time franchises, the POTC series, we get a western that is based off a radio play and a TV series, both of which I have never seen nor listened to. However I have done research into this, so I more or less know what to expect. Let's take a look at it:

So we go to what looks like a fair in 1933 and a young boy who idolises the Lone Ranger, goes into an exhibition of him and comes across an elderly Indian man called Tonto (played by Johnny Depp who you could say is a spiritual successor to POTC's Jack Sparrow) who tells him the tale of the Lone Ranger. His story begins in 1869 where a railroad is being built and where Tonto has been captured and after a train incident, he is then locked up in prison by the Texas Rangers. One of the rangers has a brother called John Reid (played by Armie Hammer) who accompanies him to find the outlaw that Tonto was with during the train incident, however this ends up with them going into an ambush and all except one of them is killed. Getting revived by a spirit horse and accompanied by Tonto, Reid decides to live up to the ranger name and goes to both avenge his brother and to protect his family, before things start to get awry.

Now as much as people hate this film, I have to admit that I too, did not like this film, for the most part. It is incredibly long, forgets very easily that its a Disney film and its a film that its mostly boring and one that when you watch it, despite its running time, you feel that it never ends. Additionally the characters are OK and the whole plot itself is not very original. However, despite those things, I did find a few things that I liked about this film. Firstly as with Jack Sparrow from POTC, Depp's character is just there for comic relief with a few serious moments here and there and he alongside Hammer do a pretty good job with both their characters. There is also an action packed scene towards the end that, while over the top, was another thing that I enjoyed watching. But in all honesty, its not a film that I recommend watching as its just a bore for the most part. 7/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2
