Random Movie Review - Scott Pilgram VS The World

So in the only (so far) film of Edgar Wright that has none of his regular contributors in it, we get a film adaptation of a graphic novel series of the same name (minus the VS The World bit). As someone who's never read the comic book series (and don't worry, I will one day), I honestly wasn't sure what this film was going to be like, but when I heard the director of the Cornetto Trilogy was directing the film, I had to take a look for myself and its quite a weird film in my opinion. Let's take a look:

So after a very cool video game like logo intro for Universal Pictures, we go to Toronto in Canada where the titular character Scott Pilgrim (played by Michael Cera) lives. He spends his time with his girlfriend Knives Chau (played by Ellen Wong) and is also the bass guitarist in the band "Sex Bob-omb" which consists of himself, the drummer and also one of his ex-girlfriends Kim Pine (played by Alison Pill), the lead singer and "talent" Stephen Stills (played by Mark Webber) and a fan of theirs called "Young" Neil Nordegraf (played by Johnny Simmons). One day, Scott begins to obsess over a girl called Ramona Flowers (played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and when he begins to date her, all hell breaks lose as he must fight her seven evil ex-boyfriends in order to continue dating her and with also trying to take part in the Battle of the Bands and a few other things, can Scott Pilgrim cope with all this?

As I said, its a very weird film that for the most part, just makes you think that everybody is on drugs. But as with all of Wright's films, its very good, action-packed and full of video game references which I like a lot. And the video game of the same name, is good too (and that is very rare for a video game based off a film to be good). 9/10
