Well seeing as there won't be much gaming stuff to talk about until towards the end of the year, I figured I should look at some other things as filler on Thursdays until then. So after seeing all of the new series (so far) and the film starring McGann as Doctor No. 7, I finally managed to sit down and watch a story from the classic series in its entirety and not glimpses which doesn't change my opinion on McCoy's doctor as such, but still worth a watch. So here are my thoughts on my very first classic Doctor Who story:
So before the new series, many of the classic Doctor Who stories which had several parts were all called the same thing, just with part whatever to identify what part of the story it is. Of course The End of Time was able to do that as well, but for a while, many of the Doctor Who stories in the classic series, sticked to that formula. So this takes place in season 25 with Sylvester McCoy as Doctor No. 7 and his companion Ace (played by Sophie Aldred) who both travel on the Tardis to 76 Totter's Lane in 1963 where the show began with An Unearthly Child. There, The Doctor has some unfinished business to attend to, involving stolen Time Lord technology that he left on Earth long ago and now two Dalek factions are after that very technology. With help from the local military, its up to the Doctor and Ace to put an end to the Daleks before the technology gets used for lord knows what as well as before they cause havoc. But when some of the humans prove to be untrustworthy, The Doctor declares to Ace to trust no one.
Now I'm not sure if this was intentional as being an episode that picks up from the show's première and I guess if it was, it would've been part of a year anniversary of the show. I don't know myself because I only recently saw it for the first time, but that's my thoughts on it. As for the story itself, I thought it was good and one of McCoy's best stories. I still have my doubts about him, but I have been told that a lot of his later work on DW made him much darker than when he made his début as the Doctor and I actually really enjoyed this one as its worth watching if you don't understand some of the references in the series 4 finale of the new series. What's also interesting is that while the new series has the Daleks not against each other (with the exception of the series 3 story involving them), the classic series has Daleks become part of different factions that are all against each other. So yeah its quite interesting. 9/10
