I think its fair to say that I didn't see this coming at all. I felt the last film based on the popular Channel 4 show of the same name, was to be the ending of the show and in all honesty, it really did feel that way. So in a way, this sequel wasn't really necessary or needed, but the show is very popular and I personally like it, so another one had to be made for the fans. Might not be among the best summer films of this year so far, but still worth having a look anyway so let's take a look:
So in quite a bizarre opening to a film, Will (reprised by Simon Bird) goes to a party at his university with his friends Neil (who is now working in a bank, reprised by Blake Harrison) and Simon (also at university, reprised by Joe Thomas), but they are rudely forced to leave because its not a fancy dress party. They then go to a pub where it looks like they are unwelcome there as well and after getting a call from Jay (reprised by James Buckley) who now lives in Australia and claims that he is living in paradise (and that's as far as I will go with the details), convinces the others to join him there where as it turns out (and not really that surprising), his so called paradise, isn't a paradise at all as he works in a nightclub's toilet and lives outside his Uncle Bryon's (played by David Field) house in a tent. But when Will meets an old love of his (called Katie, played by Emily Barrington) and asks him to join her with her travelling crew on some kind of spiritual journey, he and the others go along with her in the hopes that Jay will find his ex (who is Jane from the first film, reprised by Lydia Rose Bewley), Will to get laid once more and enjoy this so called spiritual journey, Neil to become a dolphin trainer and I guess Simon is just along for the ride or just to get away from his girlfriend (who is Lucy also from the first film, reprised by Tamla Kari) who he accidentally asks for her hand in marriage despite him wanting to break up with her.
So as I said, this film wasn't really needed, but hey, there is a big fanbase for this television turned film series so we all knew another film would be just around the corner and its an good film. The jokes are great as always (though there are some jokes that you would normally can't stand in films, but I'm making an exception for most of them here this time around) as are the characters, but as with everyone else, there is a lot of hate in this film in regards to the female characters. But I'm OK with that. Its not the best film that I've seen this year and certainly not the worst and I feel it was more aimed to the fans than regular movie goers like me. But I'm in some way a fan, so that counts. I said a while ago that the first film was the result of all British films based on British television shows and TV personalities and comedians being so bad, but in truth, that film wasn't a bad one to begin with and I feel both this and that film work better as films and look like films compared to Keith Lemon: The Film and The Harry Hill Movie which look more like made for TV films than actual films that you'd go and see at the cinema. So is this film worth seeing? If you're a fan of the show and the first film, then yes. As for everyone else, you'll definitely find enjoyment in it, but not to a great extent like the fans will in my opinion. 7/10
