Random West End Show Review - Made in Dagenham

So having seen Hairspray, I think its fair to say that musicals that are based on strikes that happened in real life, can be done well as an entertaining musical that has a lot of heart, laughs among other things, but also talks about some of the more important things that has happened in history and as a result, they can do pretty darn well. Now we come to this musical based on a vary recent film of the same name which talks about equal rights. The right for men and women to do the same jobs regardless of skill which began following the Ford sewing machinists strike of 1968 and from what I've read up, its one of these strikes that has made a huge impact on the world and has made what today is. But enough rambling on, let's talk about this musical and see if it remains true to the actual event:

The story focuses on a working woman and mother called Rita (played by former Bond girl and all around great actress Gemma Arterton) who works at a Ford sewing factory in Dagenham. There, she finds out that because of her accused unskilled job, the management can discriminate her and her colleagues and can reduce her pay. This leads to her starting the strike that would see women and men have equal pay and not be discriminated for their skills or lack of, much to her family who need her more than anything else.

Now throughout the show, you see car parts in the background and all these great set designs that makes me think that they got everything right with the Ford factory and even how politics work. Its great. The music is great, the set pieces are great and Gemma certainly knows how to do things right. What's even more great about this show is that its also raising funds for the Make a Wish Foundation so its made clear to me that this wasn't a cash grab at all from the film. Its great. I have absolutely no criticisms to make and I feel its in every man and woman's power to say if changes have to be made and I do respect people who feel the need to do that. Though I will say the venue could be better because I did have a sort of crammed seat. 9/10
