Movie Series Review - Daredevil

So this is the new Batman, huh? Well, I just don't know what to say about that. I really don't. Anyway, so in light of the vast amount of Marvel news that has come out recently as well as the Netflix run of Daredevil having now started, it felt right of me to talk about not one, but two films made by 20th Century Fox during the licensing out days of Marvel that many fans have called the worst Marvel film to ever be made. Now I know my 4th anniversary is this week, but I already have something far worse than these films planned for that, so for now, let's see how and why this film and its sequel are put on everyone's worst Marvel films list:

Daredevil
So we have a duo of lawyers, one being our main character called Matt Murdock (played by the future Batman, Ben Affleck) who is blind and the other being his best friend Franklin "Froggy" Nelson (played by Jon Favreau, pre-Iron Man days so laugh all you want). The result of Matt's blindness comes from things that had happened in his past and have made him what he is today (and the story is pretty much the same generic superhero story about at least one of his folks being killed and through various incidents that have made him the way he is). Matt then goes to meet a woman called Elektra (played by that actress who I swear just always has that concerned face on her all the time, Jennifer Garner) who has had dealings with our main villain Kingpin (played by one of the few badass actors that I liked before he died, Michael Clarke Duncan) who just so happens to hire an Irish assassin called Bullseye (who quite literally has a bullseye on his forehead and ironically is played by the Irish actor that is Colin Farrell) to do his bidding. Taking on the persona of Daredevil, its now up to Matt to put an end to Kingpin and his ways, no matter what. Now I could say that this film sucks, but to be honest, I've seen far worse films than this. Its a good way to see how Ben will play Batman and its also nice to at least see Colin and Michael have fun in the roles they have. Throughout watching this film, I actually kept thinking of this one ride at this local annual fair that comes into my home city in the summer which is called Daredevil and has all the characters on it. So is this a bad film? Honestly as a Marvel film, I'd say yes. But for what it is, I have seen worse. And it just so happens that it was kind of successful at the box office, that Fox decided to make another film, but focus more on Elektra this time around, so let's look at that film shall we? 5/10

Elektra
So here we have a film that no one wanted, but Fox gave us anyway because Daredevil was a hit at the box office, but not so much with critics and audiences. Anyway, so Jennifer Garner reprises her role of Elektra where she is revived having previously been killed off by Daredevil and after some training, decides to become a contract killer. She takes on an unusual assassination from her agent and well the rest of the film is her fulfilling that assassination. Yeah its not really that great of a film in my eyes. It was quite dull and at times, boring. But it is a good popcorn film if that's your sort of thing. But you know, I can now see why Fox were never able to make great Marvel films except for X-Men of course (for the most part anyway). 4/10

So as a whole, the Daredevil films were never good as a film, but they are good popcorn films if that's your thing. And you know, I can see these films as a way of showing people what the next Batman will be like and they are both also prime examples of the early superhero films where the film makers were just trying to hard to have them be taken seriously and use way too much symbolism as a result. 5/10
