Random Movie Review - Duel

So to begin my series of film reviews that are films made by some of my favourite film makers, we start with the man who invented the summer blockbuster and has served as a pioneer in the film industry, Stephen Spielberg. This film is Spielberg's feature film debut after having done numerous amateur work and a short film in the past. So let's get to it:

So we meet this guy called David Mann (played by the late Dennis Weaver) who is a middle age salesman who is driving on a business trip. All seems well, until a truck driver starts to cause him problems such as stalking him, following him, preventing him to pass and generally just being a right old d**k to him. It isn't long however before Mann realises that the truck driver has it in for him and so he must save himself before the truck finishes him off.

A pretty straight forward plot which is to be expected from someone who at the time, had only made films on a low budget. As Spielberg's first film, I think its good. Its a great thrill ride, is an edge of your seat film and just shows that Spielberg is serious when it comes to film making which he made clear in this very film. And then after this, he would then show the world what a summer blockbuster is and give us a shark called Jaws, an alien called E.T. and a bunch of dinosaurs in a park called Jurassic Park. 9/10
