Random Movie Review - Fantastic Mr. Fox

You've probably noticed by now that I'm reviewing things that relate to things coming out each year. In 2016, we're getting a lot of video game films which hope to dissolve the law of every film based on a video game being worse than the video game (which has happened in the past), but we shall see about that. Superhero films are big right now so it would only be natural for us to finally see DC and Marvel compete with their own cinematic universes. And we're also getting a few films adaptations of books where the imagination can run wild from time to time. Seeing as this year, we're getting our second BFG film adaptation (yes, it is the second ever one with the first being seen in 1989), seems right for me to talk about some other films based on books by Roald Dahl. Today, we talk about Fantastic Mr. Fox, a stop motion film that like with other stop motion films, was met with critical acclaim. But is it that great of a film? Let's find out:

So we meet our titular character (voiced by the worst Batman ever but a good actor nevertheless, George Clooney) and his wife Felicity (voiced by an actress who I swear does the same pose for every film poster for a film she is in with minor tweaks, Meryl Streep) who raid a farm, but get caught in a fox trap. Felicity reveals to Fox that she is pregnant and pleads to Fox to find a safer job if they escape. We then cut to two years later where the Foxes and their son Ash (voiced by one of Scott Pilgrim's girlfriend's seven evil exes, Jason Schwartzman) have moved into a tree despite their lawyer telling them of the risks of such a place can endure and soon enough, his old theifing days come back and before long, its war between Fox and the farmers.

I do like stop motion films. There's no question of that. But for a film like this, I would think it may have fared better as a CGI or animated film just by the nature of the story and what is involved. But despite this, I give the film makers credit for making this film stop motion. Having read the book its based on, I'd say its somewhat accurate to the book and while there are some changes here and there such as the Americanisation of the cast, I will accept them. One of the best films based on a Roald Dahl book, out there. Can't say anymore than that. 9/10
