Random Video Game Review - Game of Thrones

Having played a number of TellTale games, I often wonder if there is any franchise safe from them. I mean they have pretty much made games based on well established franchises with the Poker Night games being close to being an original IP if it wasn't for the inclusion of third party characters. In the case of Game of Thrones this was a franchise that for a while, I avoided until I heard all the different jokes and references to the show such as the infamous "Winter is Coming" quote that is often used in the show. Then just last year I decided to get into the show and to be honest, it has moments where its confusing, but there is a lot to like in the show as well. I haven't read the books, but I know enough to keep me amused. So with that said, let's go in:

Now rather than do each individual episode, I've decided to review it as a whole to avoid any possible spoilers. The events of the game take place in the world of the TV show, starting at the end of season 3 and continuing up to season 5, kind of running in line with the show in a similar but very different fashion to how Kingdom Hearts did it with the games in that franchise. The main focus is on House Forrester which thus far, has been a family not yet introduced in the TV series, but has been briefly mentioned in the books. You get to play as 5 different characters and following the footsteps of other TellTale games, you get to choose how to go about the decisions the characters make which like Mass Effect and Heavy Rain, will have an impact in the story as you continue playing the game. There are some quick time events as well which aren't really the best things to have in games as a lot of people hate them, but that's to be expected. And then finally, there will be times where you can freely move your character around.

Kind of like with the recent LEGO games, TellTale games have come to a point where they have found the right sort of gameplay for their games and just now focus on graphics and as the name of the company implies, story. For Game of Thrones, its not a bad game. I've yet to fully experience other TellTale games (currently going through Minecraft: Story Mode, Batman and The Walking Dead games) in their entirety, but this game I think its good. I'm the kind of gamer who wants to have a challenge put before me and like to hear good stories and I think TellTale games do just that so I can't complain. Whether you're a fan of the franchise or not, this game is good for people wanting to get into Game of Thrones without having to know anything about the franchise as well as for fans of the franchise wanting something more than just books and a TV series. I also hear there's a second game on the way so that something to look forward to as well. 9/10
