Random TV Season Review - Constantine (Season 1)

In recent years, DC have been able to adapt some of their lesser known characters into a series of TV shows that are collectively known as the Arrowverse, getting its name from the first show that started the universe off. And now everybody knows who Green Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and the Legends Tomorrow are, even though some of them started off way back on cartoons like Justice League, Teen Titans, Young Justice and Batman: The Brave and The Bold. But despite all that, one character had a TV series, but in a similar way to how Firefly was cancelled, it lasted for only one season due to poor ratings, but managed to fit in a crossover with Arrow as a result. This of course, is a character called John Constantine, a British exorcist and occult detective and one of the few DC characters who knows how to wield magic. A while ago, Keanu Reeves starred in a film based on this character and while it did well at the box office, it had a very mixed reception. So why such a good show like this get cancelled just because of ratings? Who knows. But anyway, let's get to it:

Much like with every first season of a TV show, the show spends the first few episodes establishing the characters with our titular protagonist (played by Matt Ryan) working as a demon hunter in the hopes to send them back to where they came from. Hoping to redeem himself from eternal torment while meeting a number of interesting characters along the way.

I actually liked this show. Its very dark and mysterious and (though I'm probably going to get some backlash for this) its nice to have someone different than Doctor Who take on scary monsters for a change. I mean Doctor Who is great don't get me wrong, but it can sometimes get boring seeing the same person take on the same monsters over and over again. But anyway, Constantine is a great show and stays true to the comics (of which I have read some) and I just wish there was more to go around. But hey, there's still that Arrow crossover. 9/10
