Random Movie Review - Passengers

While most of last year's sci-fi films were pretty decent, this film came out and even though it has 2 big names in it who are known for making their films great, I guess even they know that sometimes a film of theirs may not be as good as their other films. You got Chris Pratt, known for being a Guardian of the Galaxy, a Master Builder and a raptor trainer. And then you have Jennifer Lawrence, known for being a tribute in the Hunger Games and a mutant in X-Men. So let's have a look at this film to see what went wrong:

So the entirety of the film takes place on the spaceship Avalon (why does that sound like a perfume brand) which is transporting 5000 colonists and 258 crew members in hibernation pods to a planet called Homestead. About half way into its journey, an asteroid field causes a malfunction in the ship which awakens one of the passengers, mechanical engineer Jim (played by Pratt) many years early. At first, he becomes puzzled in this new environment and spends most of the time exploring the ship and befriending the robotic bartender (played by Michael Sheen) before going into isolation and contemplating suicide. This then leads to him awakening another passenger, writer Aurora Lane (played by Lawrence) who accepts the situation at hand, unaware of the reason why he let her free and the two become close as the ship malfunctions further causing more problems.

So in my opinion, its a watchable film. Its not the worst nor is it the best film I've seen, but it deserves at least one sit through. I know that its a scenario that's been done many times before, but with great actors like the ones I mentioned already, its definitely worth your time. Storytelling could be better as the film tends to be too predictable at times. But it's nice to see some chemistry between a Guardian and a mutant. 8/10
