Random Video Game Review - Friday the 13th: The Game

Yeah I couldn't resist the opportunity. So in the days when slasher horrors were at their prime, we got one horror film about some teenagers going to a lake cabin, only to then be hunted down by one Jason Voorhees. Probably one of the most terrifying of the slasher monsters as he doesn't speak, very rarely reveals his face while holding his murder weapon the machete and wearing his iconic hockey mask (which doesn't occur until the third film of the original saga). He's had numerous appearances both physically and mentally and has taken on another iconic slasher monster (the crossover of which we will talk about later this month). So as far as videogames are concerned, there have been a few that came out on some very old but retro platforms. But its thanks to crowdfunding that we get another game. So let's take a look:

While the game itself has no narrative, it instead works as a multiplayer game where players can play as the teenagers or Jason himself. If the former, your task is to take on some missions in the hopes to escape the lake as well as Jason or just simply survive and defeat him if you can. If the latter however, your task is to wipe out the teenagers using all the abilities Jason has made available to him across the almost entire franchise. As a game that is still being built, there is lots of DLC and updates that can enhance the experience and there is also talks of a single player mode.

So if you are a Friday the 13th fan, you'll most likely enjoy this game if you don't mind playing online with others. But if like me, you prefer it just being you and your own friends, that is also possible too. As a game, its not spectacular in graphics, but the gameplay is pretty solid and it could be seen as more of a celebration of the franchise's long history and something fans have been wanting for a while. I don't know about cross-platform play, but I hope that should everyone want to play across all platforms online, its possible that we could get it. But anyway its a good game, but if you like single player games, then this isn't ready for you just yet, but you can still have fun. 7/10
