Believe it or not, I haven't reviewed the first Kung Fu Panda despite having previously reviewed its sequels. So today, I am going to rectify that by giving you my thoughts on the very first film. Now I may have reviewed it previously and if so, then Blogger may be playing up and I apologise in advance. But anyway let's look at where it all began:
We come to the setting of the films which is inhabited by anthropomorphic animals much like in Zootopia and such and is set in China. We meet Po (voiced by legendary actor and rockstar Jack Black) who idolises the Furious Five and hopes to one day become a kung fu master. But until then is happy helping his adoptive father (voiced by James Hong) at his noodle shop. But when the master of the master of the Furious Five has a vision of a villainous tiger and former student (voiced by Blackbeard himself, Ian McShane) escaping prison, a tournament takes place to allow the master (voiced by Randall Duk Kim) to identify the so called Dragon Warrior who would be able to stop the tiger as well as the other threats yet to come. Somehow despite not being part of the Furious Five, the master points to Po who from that point, begins his training to become the Dragon Warrior much to the displeasure of the Furious Five and their master (voiced by Dustin Hoffman).
As the first film, it is great. Its well animated, well acted by everyone and it even has some accuracy to these sorts of events that occur in the eastern part of the wild. I think most people would agree in saying that this is probably Jack Black's best work since School of Rock at the time of its release. Its also very funny and serious when it needs to be. And it just shows that despite the cuddly feel of them, pandas can be fighters too. 9/10
