AC19: Random Movie Review - A Christmas Horror Story

While the horror genre is more closely associated with Halloween over everything else, that doesn't necessarily mean that it can be used in other times of the year such as Christmas. So here we are with a horror story set around Christmas and it's quickly become a classic. But I should warn you, going into this film, you may never look at Christmas in the same way again. So let's see how scary or stabby this film is:

The film plays out as a anthology film in which a DJ named Dangerous Dan (played by the first James T. Kirk, William Shatner) is doing a long shift at a radio station while a series of four stories are witnessed. The first story is about a group of kids that break into a school to investigate two murders that occurred in the school's basement the year prior with some ghastly results. Story number two sees a family of three enter the woods to illegally chop a tree down for their Christmas tree while the son starts to act strangely in a story similar to the Exorcist. Story number 3 sees another family who are visiting a relative who has some connection to the mythological being known as Krampus (played by Rob Archer). And in the fourth and final story, a mall Santa finds himself in the middle of a zombie apocalypse and does all he can to keep himself alive with a pretty shocking twist at the end of it.

As a horror film set around Christmas, its actually pretty good. The stories are well developed and manage to interweave well into the film. All the actors as unknown as many of them are, play their parts well. But I think the thing I got out of this film is just how people may not see Christmas in quite the same light after the film ends. But it is a nice change to your average Christmas film and I hope we get more in the future. 9/10
