Random TV Show Review - Agent Carter

In the early days of Phase 2, Marvel considered doing some TV shows set in the cinematic universe to fill in the gaps between films and its had a very mixed reception. Some have been great like Daredevil and Jessica Jones, whereas there are some that are not so great like Inhumans, Iron Fist and Agents of SHIELD. Today we are looking at Marvel's second TV series all about Peggy Carter (reprised by Hayley Atwell) in the early days of SHIELD following the disappearance of one Captain America. It only lasted two seasons due to poor viewing ratings so let's see if its worth more seasons or just another one of Hydra's worst:

Also be prepared for some spoilers if you haven't watched everything to do with the MCU up to this point.

Season One sees Peggy trying to balance doing admin work and going on missions with Howard Stark (Tony Stark's late father, reprised by Dominic Cooper) as well as going about life as a single woman in 1940s America. We also learn about the origins of Black Widow without directly referencing her as well as the Winter Solider program that almost caused Hydra to take over SHIELD and the world and although manipulated to do so, were also responsible for the death of Tony Stark's parent. Season Two sees Peggy move from New York to Los Angeles to deal with new threats of the new atomic ages in the wake of WWII which sees her gain allies, a new friend and a potential new love interest. Some connections to Agents of SHIELD and Doctor Strange are established largely in this season with Darkforce being mentioned a lot and we see what becomes of the hover car prior to Agent Coulson using it in his show.

So as far as the show is concerned, it's pretty good. Its nice for Carter to get her own show in the hopes to not only provide character development for her, but to also further develop the beginnings of the MCU following The First Avenger. Although the final episode left a cliffhanger, I'm just happy in knowing that we got some information regarding current events in the MCU and how things began such as the Winter Solider program and other things too. Its action packed, well developed and well acted, though its probably one of a handful of Marvel shows set in the MCU that's worth watching. Still though, it doesn't try to cram every known MCU Easter Egg in your face which is good and just keeps the connections subtle but sweet. 8/10
