Video Game Review - Rust

As many of us PC gamers know, Steam often releases games in something called Early Access. And yes, it is exactly what you think it is. The ability to play a game currently in development in the hopes to let players provide feedback to the developers to influence the finished project. I'm no stranger to these games having previously played and reviewed games that were in the same stage such as LEGO Worlds. I'm also no stranger to survival games of which this game is. So let's see if its good or rusty:

As it is with most survival games, the objective of the game is simple; just survive. To do this, you can craft weapons such as guns, bows and melee weapons to defend yourself. But while the local wildlife may pose as a threat, the real threat comes from other players. Yep, this is another online game where its survival of the fittest. Alongside crafting tools, you can also make your own base. And while other players pose as the real threat, some can be recruited to assist you in your survival. This can be best compared with Minecraft as far as crafting, eating and fighting is concerned, minus the fantasy and sci-fi elements as well as the block and pixel graphics.

Its nothing new or innovative and largely is like every other survival game out there. Customization is non-existent here and your given a randomly generated character that can be of a different ethnicity, but is generally tied to your Steam ID thus giving the game a forced sense of diversity. But that being said, it's not really a bad thing seeing as many games (even ones that do have character customization) generally do this anyway. But apart from that, it is a decent game that even in its finished state, could still be worked on to make it better and stand out from similar games. So in other words, it is kind of rusty, but with a bit more work and the rust will wear off for sure I hope. 7/10
