Random Video Game Review - Secret of Mana

I just want to quickly clarify that I am reviewing the 3D remake and not the original game just so you all know. So in the year of 1993, Square Enix (then known simply as Square) created an RPG that wasn't Final Fantasy as such, but it was along the same lines as those games. Lots of people praised the game as being an instant classic as well as innovative (at the time of its original release) and so I decided to take a look myself. Having not played the original game, no comparisons will be given though my understanding is that both the SNES and the 3D remake are very much the same game just with improved visuals in its remake. So let's get to it:

Set in a high fantasy world, we find that this world has an energy source known as Mana. A technologically advanced civilisation used this engery to create the Mana Fortress which angered the gods. This then led to a war where the gods sent beasts out to destroy this fortress. With so much destruction taking place, it took the power of one hero to end the destructive conflict which almost drained the world of its Mana energy. Many years later as the world recovers, three heroes find the sword the one hero used and they embark on a journey to the Mana temples to awaken the sword's power and save the world from restarting the war once again. Much like with many RPGs released in the early 90s, the game is shown from a top down perspective and you can play as one of the three heroes with the other heroes either following the hero you control or two other players can join in. As it is with many RPGs, each character has their own strengths and weaknesses which brings a lot of variety and such to the table. Experience points are granted to each character over time which improves their stats in the game. Mostly things seen in many RPGs nowadays, but for the time, it was innovative.

I can see why many people love this game as it is really good. Its an RPG unlike any other and it's innovative with its now overused gameplay style with the story being pretty decent as well. Graphics-wise, the remake brings the game up to date with current gen graphics which makes the game even better. But as I don't want to compare this time, I'll leave it up to you on whether the graphics are better here or with the original game. So yeah, definitely a game that's worth your time. 9/10
