Random Movie Review - Ant-Man and The Wasp

So we've got a long break before the next Avengers film so let's look at a much needed palette cleanser. At the end of Phase 2, we got to meet Ant-Man and find out what life is like for him which of course gets enhanced when he takes the mantle of the titular hero. At the end of the film, one post credit scene hinted at the possibility of The Wasp making a debut in the future. And the future is here so let's get to it:

The film begins with a retelling of what happened to Janet van Dyne (played by acting legend and former Catwoman, Michelle Pfeiffer) the former Wasp, husband to Hank Pym (reprised by another acting legend, Michael Douglas) and mother to Hope van Dyne (reprised by Evangeline Lilly, formerly of Middle-Earth fame) which foreshadows and sets up the events of the film. After that, we then cut to a time between Civil War and Infinity War where current Ant-Man Scott Lang (reprised by Paul Rudd) is enjoying or trying to enjoy his house arrest in which he spends quality time with his daughter and family with FBI agent Jimmy Woo (played by fictional Kim Jong-un from the controversial film The Interview, Randall Park) occasionally checking in to make sure Scott is serving his sentence. Both Hank and Hope have cut all ties to him following him helping Cap. However when Scott experiences a moment where he briefly becomes Janet, he gets in touch with Hank and Hope who in turn get him temporally free from house arrest so that he can help them find a way to Janet using what she put telepathically into his mind. Of course a lot of shenanigans occur while a woman who is struggling to keep alive, hunts them down to harness the power that Janet may have acquired during her time in the quantum realm.

While there have been a few Marvel films already that see two heroes together on a buddy like trip, it's nice that this time both heroes get top billing. Like the first film, it's a fun film that is largely light hearted with humour when necessary and the sad and serious moments are there, but don't take up too much time which is kind of what we need after what happened in the last Marvel film. Its impressive to see that in its 10th anniversary that this is Marvel's 20th film in its cinematic universe which does mean that they have gone a long way since Iron Man back in 2008. So yeah its a palate cleanser that we need and at least we get to know if any of these characters survived the wrath of Thanos in the credit scenes thus setting up Avengers 4 even further. 9/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2
