Random Movie Review - Tucker & Dale VS Evil

So our last Halloween/horror film review comes in the form of a film that uses a what if scenario. The scenario in question being what if the characters who are traditionally known as the victims/protagonists are actually the villains. Well that's what this pretty funny horror film tries to figure out and its pretty good. So let's get to it:

Some paparazzi attempt to go through a crime scene in the hopes to find anything that the police may have missed for a bigger story. But they soon get quickly taken care of by a Two-Face like man who has half his face burned off and is badly injured. We then cut to somewhere in West Virginia where a group of teenagers go out to camp in the woods. At the same time, the titular duo of Tucker (played by pop culture legend Alan Tudyk) and Dale (played by the voice of Hunk from Voltron: Legendary Defender, Tyler Labine) who are both two well meaning hillbillies, talk about their holiday cabin which just so happens to be set in the same woods where the teenagers are camping. A lot of misunderstandings between both sides occur following the hillbilly duo's attempt to save one of them from drowning and its up to this one teenager they save called Allison (played by Katrina Bowden) to work out who really is good and who is bad; the hillbillies or her teenage friends.

Its a very funny film that at first explores the common tropes in horror films, before turning it onto its head to make us struggle to figure out the good from the bad. Everyone plays their parts well, though some of the lesser important teenagers feel one dimensional compared to the main two. Plus even though its a horror film, it does surprisingly have some heart in there which is quite rare to do in horror films. Its hilarious, a lot of fun and most of us may not see teenagers in horror films in quite the same way again after watching this film. And while it is a little spoiler, it has all the makings of being a serial killer film. Just without the killer in question and in its place are a bunch of misunderstanding. 9/10
