AC13: Random Movie Review - The Christmas Chronicles

So recently, you may have seen Kurt Russell appearing a lot on chat shows and other media. This is mainly because he is trying to promote his new film which sees him in a Santa Claus kind of role and he now joins the cult of actors who have played the jolly old man that Santa is (and yes I did just make that up). With at least one little nod to one of Russell's earlier films and a surprisingly good cast, we Netflix people are bound to have a good jolly old time here. So let's see how merry this film can get:

One Christmas night in Lowell Massachusetts, a small family who up until recently made it a tradition to celebrate the holiday. But when one member died as a firefighter in the line of duty, the tradition has since been long forgotten. But on the night of Christmas Eve, Santa appears and after a few shenanigans, his sleigh breaks down in Chicago, Illinois and so its up to two stowed away children to save Christmas before the night is out. Though the work Santa gives them may be more harder than what they can chew.

So many people have portrayed Santa Claus over the years. Tim Allen's take was where Santa was a job that's passed on to other people like himself. Some versions see him as a bada** who's ready to take on the world. But I think what makes Kurt Russell's one stand out is that he acts like a veteran who knows what he is doing and talks like a normal person without the jolly and the dumbfounded personality that we are used too seeing in him. I guess you could say that this Santa is one that you can go out for drinks with and just be able to talk normally even though much of what he is saying is makebelief. Also if anyone has ever seen the film Overboard, you'll get to see a little if not unintentional nod to that film at the end. 9/10
