Random Movie Review - Bird Box

For many of us, having to be blindfolded for absolutely anything can be scary. We don't know what's happening, where we are going and for all we know, we may end up in a place that isn't somewhere we know well. So here we have a film that uses that fear many of us has and well it becomes what is quite possibly one of the most original thrillers to ever come out in recent times (at least for me anyway). So let's see what many are too frightened to see:

The film goes between the past and present in which the past shows us how the events that have transpired, affect things happening in the present. In the present where the world has become post-apocalyptic, a woman called Malorie (played by the legendary Sandra Bullock) instructs two unnamed children that they are going down stream on a boat and must wear and keep their blindfolds on in order to survive what awaits them. In the past, Malorie is pregnant and goes to hospital for an annual check on the baby, initially being completely oblivious to mass suicides that originated from Romania. But when seeing these suicides for herself and witnessing her own sister doing the same, Malorie seeks refuge inside a house with other survivors and over the course of the film, these survivors and Malorie make preparations for surviving this entity that has caused these mass suicides even if it means she can never see the light of day again.

While I feel that the majority of the film is great, there is at least two problems I have. The ending which is a good one, but also a questionable one. And also the thing about the entity not being resolved unless its being set up for a sequel of sorts. But other than that, its got chills, thrills and plenty of drama that kind of gives it an edge over other very similar films. 8/10
