Random Movie Review - Constantine: City of Demons

So seeing as DC are doing things that are to do with their lesser known characters (or in other words, anything that has very little to do with Batman and Superman), its come as no surprise that we'd get our first animated Constantine film which yes I know did originally start out as a series, but has become a film in its home media release. You may have come across the character from his reoccurring appearances in the Arrowverse (of which his own show was part of once upon a time) as well as his active role behind the scenes in the Injustice comic book series. Unlike many of the DC heroes, I personally see him as an anti-hero given everything he has gone through to be the magic user that he is and some of the similarities he shares with Batman such as their dark and brooding nature. So with all that said, let's look at this film of his:

Set in the DC Animated Movie Universe (itself part of the DC Universe Animated Original Movies line), John Constantine (reprised by the only known DC veteran to have played the same character both vocally and physically, Matt Ryan) is contacted by one of his closest friends Chas Chandler (voiced by that lieutenant in Pirates of the Caribbean, Damian O'Hare) who is in need of his help to save his daughter from a supernatural plague that has put her and many others in unexplained comas. So they travel to Los Angeles to confront a demon known as Beroul (voiced by Jim Meskimen) who may have had a part in the plague.

I have seen many DC films and know that most of them can get very mature ratings and this film I can say is worthy of the rating it got. Its very bloody, has some sexual tension and of course some very strong language. But in light of all that, its a pretty good film which actually is probably a lot better being seen as a film and not a series. Of course its not your typical DC film given how fantasy like it is compared to the superhero action of the more mainstream heroes. But its very good with some great animation, some pretty risky but well deserved elements and despite its very mature nature, it can unexpectedly be a bit of fun too. I'd say of all the Constantine things I have seen and/or read, this comes close to being one of the best things about the anti-hero that he is. Nothing more to say than that. 9/10
